The Misadventures of a Semi Part-time Faux Finisher in Transition

There truly are days when I feel like that is the title of my life!  I am a girl who doesn't love when one single thing is said to define me, so instead of focusing on one solid idea I like to spread it around...like tinted glaze on knocked down plaster.

This theme is not exactly a new and profound revelation for me, I have written about it a number of times over at my other blog.  For some reason, no matter how much I try to push it aside, I always tend to come back to the company.

Kind of like Jaws - just when you think its safe to go back in the water...

For me the "water" is all that other stuff I do, but for some reason, even though I'm enjoying school and potentially found an editor for my novel, all I really want to do is start making home decor items with a Giani Granite finish, buy more sample boards and play around with metallic finishes, search online for inspiration, and then do stuff like update my blog and website (plus all associated marketing materials) to my new snazzy feel and promote it all over town.

And of course by "town" I mean to local designers, craigslist, Etsy, Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn.

Geez, could I be using more air quotes today?

Anyway, the point is I'm a casual kind of girl, I like sports and try not to take myself all that seriously most of the time.  But I'm very serious about my business, how I treat my clients and the level of quality which I will adhere to on every single installation, regardless if its an entire first floor of their home or one single light switch cover.

So I wanted to remove the heavy formality that was associated with my old blog/website design and try to embody the spirit of 'serious fun' in my new look.  Do you think I pulled it off?

What have you changed recently that more accurately represents who you are?

Nice updates! The change I've made lately is focusing more energy on how I do what I do, which helps me realize what my passions and gifts truly are. I'm also recognizing that I can't do it all/be everything I want to be right now. Some of it's just going to have to wait, and I'm learning to be okay with that.

Ugh, please tell me how you're managing the being okay w/ that part because that's what keeps me up at night most of the time :-) I know it sounds crazy but the thing I think I have to wrap my head around letting go of is dealing with my manuscript in any way shape or form until I'm out of school. I love my finishing business and its something I can do part time. Writing is a full & a half time job. Kind of a bummer but probably necessary. Sigh.

I love the new look - very clean, sophisticated, yet un-stuffy!

I've been spending time thinking about your very apt question. There are several things that need changing, just haven't done them yet. More on that another day.

Peace, Judi

I'm LEARNING to be okay with it, not managing to be okay. Very distinct difference! :) Mostly it's priorities. There simply aren't enough hours in the day. I'm trying to convince myself that what doesn't get done is being let go by choice, rather than necessity, and letting go of entire categories, with the expectation that I'll be able to give them the attention they deserve at a later date, aids me in my delusion--I mean my reality.

Yeah Mum, I definitely hear that! Many shifts come slow too so its almost impossible to tell its even happened until way later when you suddenly realize you're doing it/something entirely different than before.

Why is that Karen? Only 24 hours hardly seems effective to managing life! I can't imagine how much more difficult it must be with kids too, obviously they take a front seat but you still need to be able to take care of yourself because w/out you there's no taking care of them. Yes...the line between delusion & reality is so fuzzy...

Change is good ... usually. If nothing else it is different. :) Well I can't say that I like etsy's changes with their forums, that truly stinks ! But they're not about to change it no matter how much or how loud etsians yell. So guess we either learn to love it ... or leave it ... I'm going to leave it. :D

Your new look is peaceful, relaxed a bit Zen like. I do love to see
photos of your projects and the finishes that you've done. That kitchen cart you did was amazing !

Oh Anna I can't say I'm entirely surprised on your stance w/ your shop. You've been kicking around leaving for a while :-( I really hope you keep your blog at least! One of my EcoEtsy teammies discovered a new selling community online -- zibbett (I think???) She was sooo happy with the switch and even the support of our team couldn't keep her Etsy shop open! Something you may want to look into as maybe your pieces would do better over there (??)

Thanks for the compliments my friend ♥
